Ek Choti Si Love Story (Eps 6)
8:19 AM, 9th May 2011
I have to do it! I have to do it before things get worse. I have to call Arjun!
My third attempt to call him becomes fruitful. Arjun picks up my call “Hello....hello.... who is this?” he speaks in half sleep.
“Hello! Arjun its me Shruthi”
“Shruthi ... you.. what a surprise....”
“Arjun listen. I don’t know you and I don’t want to know either. Please forget me and go back home. Please don’t follow me again”
“Oh oh ...Shruthi ....... What.. what are you talking? Don’t imagine .....” he speaks while composing himself.
“Arjun stop it! I beg you, go back home. And don’t waste time behind me” I hung up.

What the fuck! How did she know about it? What is happening? While I think these, I remember last night.

One of the greatest inventions of human is alcohol. Rightly said, ‘Spirit enlivens your spirit’. An old philosopher said once that, mind is a drunken monkey and if you don’t encage it, it drives away all peace from your life. Little did he know the peace of mind a drunken mind revels. You neither have to fear contempt nor beg someone’s approval! You will be what you are.
What else can be better, than having a chilled beer on a cool night with your friend by your side, imbibing equally. Arjun became my friend in just a few hours. During 25th sip of my bottle, doubts assailed me; is it appropriate to call him a friend, given just the few hours of acquaintance we shared. But during my 28th sip I realised ‘why not?’When love can engulf him in few hours, why not my friendship? Else why would I cancel my flight to have a toast with him?
“Want another beer?” I offer him with a smirk.
“Ya sure! Ajay you are such a nice person. You know!”
“Ya I do” I giggle, proving the effect of beer.
“I am a stupid , else why would I waste time for a girl, who just travelled with me” Arjun says in a faltering tone “I am idiot, asshole.”
“No... sometimes things happen without reason. We are just pawns in fate’s hand.” I fill with philosophies.
“No No No... I am stupid.. I am all nuts” he shouts.
I don’t have an option; so I say “Ya you better think little before making any decision. Family... language.. your common interest.......”
“No. These are bull shit” he interrupts me “I love her. What’s wrong? It is God’s wish she travelled with me; sometimes things happen without reason” he says.
Is he playing devil’s advocate with himself? Again I don’t have option; so “Ya! You two are meant to live together”
“Ajay, you are such nice person. You know!”
Aiyo mothala irunthu thirumbi aarambikirane (Oh my God! He is starting all over again)
Ithuku than love panra pannadainga kooda thanni adika koodathu (Never drink with a person in love).
“If you have so much love for her, let her know that. There is no point in loving or hating someone, in their absence”
“But what if she says no?”
‘Then I will get a chance’ my insidious mind speaks. “Think about what if she says yes?” I question him back.
After long argument he finally agrees with what I said. He agreed to call her. He agreed to open his heart to her. He agreed to propose her.
With trembling hand he dials her number and gets her on call.
“Hello! Shruthi.. I am Arjun” he says.
“Yaya. Shruthi I am fine.. Shruthi.. You ate?”
“..........” she replies, which I cant hear.
“Hmmm Shruthi.. Today you looked gorgeous”
“.........” her reply again.
“So Shruthi... You know.. you are such a nice person” this made me laugh, spitting my mouthful of beer. Same dialogue to her!
“Shruthi I want to tell you something. No no .... Just 5 minutes... Shruthi”
“......” yet again her reply.
“Shruthi I love you! Shruthi I really love you...” he stutter “Shruthi.. hello... hello.. Shruthi”
“What happened?” I inquire him as he hurls his mobile to a corner.
“She hung up” he shouts “everything is over. Just like I said. What else I can do?... everything is over”
She hung up. So she didn’t accept his proposal. The sight of me and her, walking hand with hand, came to my devious mind.
“How can you expect a girl to accept a guy whom she just knew? You messed things hastily”
He throws empty beer tins on me “All because of you! I would have made her a good friend, then expressed my love.
You and your stupid philosophies” he accuses me.
Oh ya! It was my idea. Isn’t! I totally forgot.
“Arjun sorry. We messed it up. Call her again. Explain everything to her”
After many un-lifted calls, she finally shows mercy on him.
“Hello Shruthi.. please listen.. I am not playing any games.. I am serious! I really love you. I want to marry you... Please don’t think I am flirting and please for God sake don’t take me as some cheap rogue”
Aama ivaru apdiye romba ozhungu (Since when you are Gentleman Mr.Arjun?) I say in my mind while emptying the packet of chips.
His blah blah blah continues. Notwithstanding his whining, I sprawl on the bed and doze off for a small intoxicated nap, ultimately fall deep asleep.

Sister Sophia is a gadget freak. Every new technology that reaches the public will also reach her very soon. The other day when Father Thomas gave her a piece of contemptuous advice regarding this, she turned down them saying “In every new technology I see God himself, science and technology are God’s marvel”.
Today she is busy exploring her new ZXC-4A mobile. Her exploration is disturbed by a knock at the door. It was Mother Grace, as usual with her graceful smile. She comes in after Sister Sophia grants permission to enter.
“Sophie, you started again with mobiles?” she asks with a smile.
“Mother! Why take the trouble to come here, you could have called me”
“Its ok child! So what is new in this mobile?”
“Mother you know what we can play Prayers in this and send it to our speaker system directly..... and we can.......” Sophia gives lectures about the features that amused her.
After patiently listening to all this Mother comes to the purpose of her visit to Sister Sophia “So Sophie did you call Mr.Rao?”
“Yes Mother. I couldn’t reach him. But I left a message in his office regarding our Home Celebration. I hope he’ll come”
“He will surely!” Mother Maria looks up, in a gesture to seek God “Men like him are very rare. God bless him. Who else would donate so much of their hard earned money for these innocent children? God bless him”
